Dear Member and Regular Attender,
The Session of Evangel met on Monday, March 16 to discuss our response to the COVID-19 crisis gripping our nation. We decided to suspend all church ministries for the foreseeable future. Instead, we will begin online streaming of Sunday worship, starting March 22, 2020. We will continue this approach until we are able to return to meeting together for worship.
This was not an easy decision, but it was made in light of our responsibilities as those who name the name of Christ. Christians are called to submit to the government as the authority established by God.
“Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.” (Romans 13:1-2)
The Session believes that what the government is requiring is just, for they are not singling out the church, but are acting in accord with current scientific understanding of virus transmission. In obedience to the government, we are also seeking to be good neighbors and shepherds of the flock of God. (Acts 20:28)
We will continue providing updates as information becomes available. Please remain in contact with others in the congregation and check your email regularly. We will soon have a link on our website to a YouTube channel, where the services will be broadcast.
In order to facilitate our obedience to Him in tithing as an act of worship, online giving is being set up, however, we would prefer that you mail your giving as a check to the church at:
Evangel Presbyterian Church
Attn: Kent Walline
1545 S. 135th Street West
Wichita, KS 67235
By mailing checks to the church, we avoid online processing fees. Please remember that while we are working to reduce costs during this time, we still have many financial obligations, including building expenses and paying our pastors.
These are indeed extraordinary times. We are doing our best to navigate the situation with wisdom, grace, and dependence upon God. If you or someone you know needs the ministry of the church, please do not hesitate to call the office, one of the pastors, or an elder or deacon. We are all here to minister to you, especially in this unique time.
For the King,
