Ask Pastor Tim

Q. Is it possible for me to lose my salvation?

A. In John 17:2 Jesus prays to His Father, “…You gave Him [Jesus] authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life.” This tells us that God has a people that He has given to Jesus and that Jesus has given them eternal life. In Ephesians 1:3-14 Paul reinforces this truth that God the Father “chose us in Christ” (4), “He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ” (5), and we were “sealed in Jesus with the Holy Spirit of promise.” (13) Clearly God is the one saving us, we are not saving ourselves. John 10:28 says no one is able to pluck God’s children out of His hand.

I John 2:19 says, “They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us…” This along with the parable of the sower instructs us that some leave the faith because they never actually had saving faith from God. Because of this, God calls us to examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith (II Cor. 13:5).
